IDC is often quoted by the press as an independent source of
analysis. Here are some examples of where IDC Latin America
analysts have appeared over the past few weeks:
•
BNamericas, January 17 - IDC predicts 12.6% growth in LatAm
IT investments - Regional
IT investments in Latin America are expected to grow 12.6% in
2008 compared to last year, reaching a total of US$48.6bn, according
to a new study by international tech consultancy IDC. The hardware
segment will once again lead the way with 13.4% projected growth
this year compared to 2007, mostly driven by handheld devices
(with 25.6% growth), PCs (16%), printers and storage. According
to Jay Gumbiner, Director of consumer and commercial devices
at IDC Latin America, PC vendors are expected to sell 25mn PCs
in Latin America this year, a 21% increase over PCs sold in
2007. Of that total, 8mn will represent laptops, up 60% year-over-year,
with 17mn desktops.
•
BNamericas, January 10 - IDC: Server sales to slow down over
next 3yrs - Mexico
Sales of servers in Mexico are expected to grow at a more conservative
rate over the next three years than in 2007 as the market moves
towards virtualization projects, international IT consultancy
IDC said in a statement. Virtualization, in which a whole series
of desktops can be hosted on one server, can lead to savings
in hardware. Virtualization is expected to be widely adopted
by the government as part of its austerity decree, which seeks
to reduce spending on IT by contracting out more services to
avoid constantly replacing hardware.
•
BNamericas, January 08 - IDC: Server market to grow 16% in unit sales in 2008 - Argentina
Argentina's server market is expected to grow 16% in terms of
units sold and 8% in terms of value this year compared to 2007,
according to international IT consultancy IDC. IDC raised expectations
for the x86 server segment due to positive results from the
last quarter of 2007. Last year, server sales rose 7.9% and
units sold increased 19.5% compared to 2006. The Argentine government
will drive growth in 2008 given that its IT investments were
considerably reduced last year due to the presidential elections.
